Lodge farm - Oct 3rd 2024

Updated: Nov 12, 2024

On the 3rd of October, Oliver Paul, a dedicated and passionate farmer, graciously extended an invitation to our esteemed members to join him on a fascinating exploration of the beef unit at his farm. As we embarked on this enlightening journey, Mr. Paul shared invaluable insights into the intricacies of the Sustainable Farming Incentive, learning from the lessons of the pilot programme and rigorous inspections with industry experts.

Walking through the farm, Mr. Paul delved into detail regarding how to best utilise the natural capital assets, historic farm maps, local partnerships, and grant options to conduct profitable and beneficial change on the farm. Of particular interest was the management of the supply chain, his unconventional relationship with the Suffolk Food Hall allows for Mr. Paul to cultivate his herd in a more natural way, without relying on growing cattle to the specific market standard for fear of failure to sell.

During the tour, Mr. Paul not only showcased his deep knowledge and expertise in the field of agriculture but also demonstrated a profound commitment to sustainable farming practices and animal welfare. His dedication to maintaining a harmonious balance between productivity and environmental stewardship was truly inspiring, serving as a testament to his unwavering dedication to the land and the animals under his care.

Overall, the experience of exploring the beef unit with Mr. Paul was not only educational but also deeply enriching, offering a unique glimpse into the modern livestock farm and the passion that drives teams like those at Lodge farm to strive for excellence in their craft.
